Help, I'm Tube-Plexed!
Can someone tell me what inner tubes I need for my Cannondale and my wife's Raleigh? Both are hybrids. My tires are stamped 700C 622x16. Hers are 700C 622x23.
Thanks! |

Thanks! I highly doubt that your tires have those stampings, more likely your rims have those stampings. More like the tires are marked something like 35-622. In which case, I suggest these tubes if you need Presta valves: Sunlite Thorn Resistant Bicycle Tube, 700 x 35-40 (27 x 1-3/8) 32mm PRESTA Valve and for Schrader valves: Sunlite Thorn Resistant Bicycle Tube 27 x 1-1/4 (700 x 30-35) SCHRADER Valve I use the 35-40 tube for tires ranging from 28-622 to 40-622. I have changed all my bikes to Presta valves, using collars on the rims that are drilled for Schrader: Wheels Manufacturing Alloy PRESTA Valve Saver (2/bag) |

If you just go shopping for tubes, you will find what you need. |
Thanks, guys! You are right - I copied the sizes for the rims, not the tires. Duh!

Tubes are sized by wheel diameter and tire width. You have 700c wheels, which have a bead seat diameter of 622 mm. Your tires are nominally 38 mm wide. So you need 700c tubes whose rated range of widths includes 38 mm. The third thing you need to know is what type of valve to look for. If your original tubes use a valve just like the ones you'd find on your car (which is likely since the bikes are hybrids), those are called schrader valves.
So putting it all together, something like this: XLC Boxed Tube, 700 x 35 - 43C (27 x 1-3/8), SCHRADER |
