Bicycle grips breaking down? What is happening to my Oury grips?
For several years I have a set of black oury grips, this summer it was particularly hot and I noticed there was a small amount of black residue on my hands after riding my bike.
Now it is fall and the temperature is cooler, but the grips now feel "gummy" and if I twist them tiny flecks of black rubber bits now come off from the grip.
Is this normal? What should I do next? Get new ones? Fix these ones? How? Suggestions?

I would like to stick with Oury brand grips. They are good and absorb vibrations well. Leather and cork are nice but a bit old school plus I don't like the look or the maintenance or the reduced durability.
I made this thread because I wanted to know about Oury grips, has anyone else had this problem with their rubber grips? Should I buy new ones or try to fix these ones (if possible)?
I tried washing them with dish detergent, it did turn the water a bit black/grey. The shedding problem still exists once they went back on the handlebars. I was wondering are these grips at their end-of-life? Do rubber grips have an EOL?

This.
My wife's mountain bike had a set of Serfas grips on it for several (10+) years that did the same thing. Completely normal, and easy to fix. Simply remove the old grips and replace with a new set of Ourys from Amazon for less than $12 shipped.

To answer your question yes this is normal for your grips ,as stated by others they at the end of their life and the only recourse is to replace them . There no way to repair them .

They're due. Two recommendations for the other Oury fans:
Remove and replace with compressed air. Stick the nozzle against the edge, hit the trigger and then pull off or push on.
Stick a quarter down into the end of the grip before putting it on - keeps the end of the bar from punching out the end of the grip.
I like Ourys but almost always wear gloves with them.

They arent gooey from sweat, its from ozone. Oury doesnt seem to have any anti-ozonants in their rubber formula. I have to admit I do like their grips, but I hate them dissolving before my eyes!

Also if you've been working on something using WD-40 or anything greasy, then ride your bike without washing your hands, your grips will basically start to break down. When I was a mechanic way way back in the day, I rode my bike to work everyday, and my Oury's did the same thing as yours.

If you use some form of cream sun screen before a ride, be sure and wash it off your hands before you ride. It softens and attacks the rubber of the grips.
