Hey folks,

This crank/bb area is creaking really really bad when I get out of the saddle. How do I get in here to lube lube it up?

Your crank arm is installed 180 degrees off WRT your large chainring.

Probably an allen wrench of the correct size, but better lit photos would help one be sure.

If you're assuming that because of the chain catcher thing on the outside, you have to know that there are two of them, one behind the crank arm and one 180 from it.

Well that's odd. Why not take some pliers and unscrew that one so it doesn't go into your leg?

I'm no QuarQ expert but it looks like each arm has a arm retaining bolt under the ring with the pin tool holes. If like others a hex wrench (8 or 10mm are the common sizes) will loosen the arm retaining bolt which will back out a few turns then contact the ring and when turned further pull the arm off the spindle. Then you get to find out how the BB is dealt with. If you're lucky it will be a threaded design and not one of the more modern press fits.

Have you tried to go to the Quarq website for diagrams or instructions (and the Felt one for the OEM spec)? Andy

.
...I wonder why they put two of those pins in there ? I'm guessing you shouldn't remove the arm labeled "Do Not Remove". OTOH, it might be like those mattress tags.

If it turns out to be a 7 or a 9, I can tell you where to get these tools...

The real odd thing is you can't mount the ring 180 from how it is now because it has five mounting bolts, not four.

So what is that other pin really for..?

It's not uncommon for 5 bolt cranks to have the 5th bolt hidden behind the crank arm.

It's to stop the chain from sliding all the way down if it comes off. Here you can see the two bolts.

Can anyone tell me how to remove this crankset and BB?

I thought I did already. If you tried my suggestions I guess I missed the findings. Have you tried the QuarQ or Felt tech offerings yet? Andy

The other picture was sufficient to see the second pin.

Is it really effective at keeping the chain from sliding down..?

You miss my point.

Five bolts, regardless of where they ate mounted, means the chainring cannot be rotated 180 degrees and have the chain keeper pin(s) line up correctly...

I have a feeling you have not seen a hidden 5th bolt crank.

I think that the Quarq Riken is no longer sold. Manual is online on the website, though. Here.
Or here.

Maybe it's there to prevent vibration caused by chainring imbalance at really high cadence.
