Groupset is mid-level and at least two generations old (610 and 590 in between)... probably three generations soon since XT was updated last year and SLX was updated this year, "Deore M6000" is surely due. Price does not include $10 shipping and possible long wait from Northern Ireland

That's pretty close to MSRP from when that hub was current. Mid level Shimano hubs are smoking good value, now as always.

That's also a standard QR hub, and almost all mountain bikes are through axles for the front fork. So it's basically obsolete.

Maybe for higher end, but 9m QR is still standard for most low/even mid range bikes.

For the Shimano hub, this and the M756 seem always be available, they both came out as wheel building was falling out of flavor, and factory wheels became prevalent, maybe they are still being produced, maybe they are NOS, that still have thousands to be shifted due to production massively outstripping demand.

I bought one of these SLX hubs, built it into a nice wheel. then I found out that the cones are not made any longer.

wasted $42 and a lot of work.

What hub do you actually have? SLX come in several versions, and the axle should still be available (which include the cones). Also, have been riding Shimano hubs for 20+ years now, never managed to wreck the cones, what you you doing to a new hub to do that?

new cones for the slx hub

this is the new cones I used for the hub. they werer the wrong size because the guys at the bike shop did not check them close enough. and I thought they new what they were doing so I did not check them.

I talked to the man that owns the company that makes cones for obsoleete hubs and they would not measure the ones they have. and he talked to the shimono people, they all decided that there is not a market for the slx hub. no I have no idea what slx.....see that they are floating disc attachments.

the bearings for the velocity hub are cheap enough to buy many extras....
