Looking for a good "project" frame....
...so maybe you guys can give me your input on this one: http://my.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?...e=STRK:ME:LNLK
What I really want to do (as I said in another thread...missed out on that bike, BTW), is get my hands on a used MTB frame and build it up, by myself. Make it a "project" bike, simply because I want to do it, build a bike from the ground up, learn about how bikes work, learn how to repair them myself, etc. My vision is to build a "hybrid" bike - a hardtail, perhaps with a stiff fork - built around an MTB frame like the one above. While I'm at it, do you guys have suggestions for a book, or website, that might be able to walk me through the process? What I've learned so far is that almost nothing is "interchangable". Take the bike above, for example. To be honest, I wouldn't even know what kind/type of fork to get nor the appropriate headset. In other words, I'm not off to a good start. ;) I own a few "How to repair you bike" books, but they are just that: repair books, not "build your own bike" books. Any input/opinions are welcome. Is this NOT a good idea? Is this too big a task for a first-timer? Oh, btw, I would also like to build my own wheels. Thanks in advance for your opinions. Jim |

I ran into my project frame, 1987 Bianchi red frame, brand spanking new except for some chips in the paint. Best $100 I ever spent.
