reverse hanger derailleur?

another of those "what's the real name of this?" questions.

you know when the rear wheel dropouts face the rear of the bike, and you use a rear derailleur that clamps on the axel and the opening faces backward too? I've always called it a reverse hanger, but I guess that's not the real term 'cause I can't look it up on ebay or doing a quick google search.

I know they make (or at least made) them 'cause I have a couple, but need another for a new project. can anyone help me with the name of it, if I have it wrong? thanks.

No, the cost advantage is to use common parts ..

the Add on deraileur hangers have a small bolt hole in the back

That is for a clamp in the back of a Front opening dropout

Used on a rear opening one, like DaHon's Folding bikes

It follows the wheel into the dropout so sits in the back Open End.

It then keeps the RD hanger Piece in position .. the hanger still faces forward

held in place By the Wheel axle , mostly + the small bolt in the Back and it's D schaped nut.

There's very little downside to using a regular adapter claw even If the dropouts face rearwards.

Or maybe you can simply flip one over.

You are describing "track dropouts" and Problem Solvers sells a rear derailleur hanger that's compatible with them:

Problem Solvers

Do a Google search for "track dropouts with rear derailleur" for more ideas and photos.

Looks like the primary use is as a Emergency Replacement when you Break off the stock Derailler Hanger .

But it may be applied in the OP's case , If its a QR hub

Fyxation offers a whole Kit to put a Derailleur drive train on a Track frame
when the Fixie thing gets Old.

Track bikes don't have dropouts.

That's not what the people who sell framebuilding supplies say. E.g.:

TRACK DROPOUTS :: STEEL DROPOUTS :: DROPOUTS :: Nova Cycles Supply Inc.

Yeah, which is why I put the quotes around "track dropouts" in my posting above. The OP seemed very unfamiliar with bike terminology so I thought "fork ends" would be more misleading.
