Front Rack and Front Fender Install Question
Howdy folks!
I own a 2016 Fuji Touring w/ Planet Bike Fenders and recently purchased the Nashbar Lowrider front rack. My question is how to install both on a single eyelet. I went out and got a longer M5 screw but just not sure the order of install. My guess is the following from out to in: http://i.imgur.com/Ub8c6qq.jpg Fender tab (behind rack) -> washer -> stabilizer bar end -> rack -> eyelet Is that that the correct order? Everything appears to be sturdy and I plan on adding blue loctite but want to make sure this configuration is acceptable. I researched on BF that the fender tab should be on the outside but want to make sure it will hold or if there's any issues I should look out for. Should a nut be added on the bolt to add to the strength? Thanks so much! |
I would be concerned about the fender stays coming from directions that needed placement priority before the rack placement. If the diameter of the fork tube gets in the way of the frontmost fender stay or the rack stay, for example, mount those after (more outward than) the rear fender stay so it can act as the spacer you need.

I have two eyelets on the bottom of my fork. The one furthest away from the bike can't be attached to by either fender or rack so I'm using the rear one to mount both. The stays are running from fender to behind the rack so as not to have the panniers resting on them.

You should put the rack mounts against the fork, with the fender stays outboard. This is to minimize the bending moment on the screws by having the larger load closer to where the screw inserts. If this causes problems with your panniers you might consider using P-clamps on the fork blades for the fender stays instead of stacking them against the rack. You should be able to bend the fender stays to clear but if not the P-clamps will work fine.

Mudguard struts can also go on the mid fork boss ..
there are A variety of steels used in bolt making and so by picking a stronger bolt the worries, stated above, are reduced. Blackburn low rider racks should be parallel to each other and so the safety clip can be one of the Spacers to accomplish that. |
