Need help with gear shifter replacement

First of all, sorry if this is in the wrong subforum.

Second, hello everyone, this is my first post here. This is also the first bicycle I've ever had and I've had it for about 5 months, so apologies if my terminology sounds ********

I borrowed the bicycle from a coworker and I broke the clickerbox. I would very much like to replace it before returning it, but I have no idea if I can use a newer one.

I have an old Sachs P5 clicker with matching gear and shift. This part has been discontinued for about 20 years AFAIK, so it's near-impossible to get it. I was thinking of getting a SRAM P5 clickerbox to replace it, but the manual says it cannot be combined with the old gear-shift. My question is, can I just get a new SRAM P5 gearshift with cable and clickerbox and just put it on the old gear? I'd add pictures, but it appears i need to have at least 10 posts for that

I have no idea, but a reputable bike shop could answer your question.

The old 2-cable shifter isn't supposed to be readily replaced by anything else.
The one-sided sort I had no trouble with. I managed to find a SRAM service manuals and figure out which parts would work by comparing pics with what I had.
You might get better help if you post in the IGH forum.

Moved from "General"

Can you post pictures of the broken parts ?
Or at least links to Internet pictures of the same parts ?
