SRAM 11sp shifter + 10sp SRAM RD?

my brother gave me his Rival 22 11sp shifter when he upgraded to RED22. i'd like to know if it will work on my Redline CX. it currently has a SRAM XO 10sp FD & RD running a 10 speed cassette and chain.

Would it work? I'v read that some say it will shift just fine on the 10sp, just you'll end up with extra click. then there are those that say it will shift fine for 1-4 gears and after that it will hop around.

any insight would greatly help. TIA

No guarantees... It May have the same cable pull ratio.. the lever will pull it across the 11 speed cassette.. detents are closer together than 10.

the RD moves as told to by the shifter..

got the parts, ? worth a try.. you need the 11 speed cassette on the wheel of course + a new chain.

SRAM's 10-speed and 11-speed Road shift systems both use the same cable actuation ratio, "Exact Actuation" (as did their 10-speed MTB systems).

What that means is, their 10- and 11-speed components can work together. But it doesn't mean that the 11-speed shifter will shift 10 cogs perfectly. In fact, I highly doubt it will. 11-speed cogs are closer together than 10-speed cogs.
Your 11-speed shifter will move the 10-speed XO RD correctly---FOR 11 SPEEDS. In other words, each shift will be slightly not enough for the larger distance between the 10-speed cogs, and there will be one extra click that would probably try to over-shift the chain off the inside of the largest cog.

So, you can use the Red22 Shifters with your 10-speed XO RD, but only for an 11-speed cassette.
The opposite situation (10 speed shifters and 11-speed Red RD) would index a 10-speed cassette.

The shifter controls the indexing of the whole system, so long as each uses the same cable pull standard.
