Help: Crank doesn't like axle
 

Hey guys, could use some help.
My Peugeot parts bin special just got its axle, and unfortunately, the crank doesn't slide along the shaft enough to allow a nut to catch the axle threads. Is there a remedy to this?

I wonder if you're mixing incompatible cranks and spindles. While the taper angle and widths are pretty standard these days back in the 1970s there were a few other fits. "Silstar" was one.


The fix is to get a matching arm and spindle (and the spindle needs to be the right length too of course). How about more info? Brands, photos? Andy.

...despite the fact that you can interchange a lot of square taper cranks and spindles, as stated above it's not universally possible. There were some completely different standards. Ofmega cranks and the ones Ofmega made for Avocet are two others that were very different and require a specific spindle.

You likely need either a different crank or a different axle. As noted above, there are two major categories of spindle tapers, and a vast array of lengths. Once you find the right taper, don't neglect to make sure the length is appropriate for a decent chainline.
