Campy Shimergo hubub
 

Hi there,
I have a set of 10speed ergos. I'm thinking of doing the hubub on my cross check...where you use shimano derailleurs with Campy Ergos. It will be a 9 speed cassette in the rear. I know that will work. My question is that I recall hearing that shimano front derailleurs have a stiffer spring than campagnolo. I don't want to install the left shifter only to find out it keeps returning to the resting state on the derailleur. Anyone know if I will have a problem before I proceed?

I have a number of bikes with the pointy gen Ergo levers and Shimano (or SunTour) ft ders. I've only had one pairing where the fLH Ergo wouldn't hold it's position under a hard sprint or hill climbing effort. I replaced the index gear after the G springs were and problem solved (BTW this is the only index gear wear that I have ever heard of needing replacement).


Also I run Shift Mates on all these bikes. I find this to be a better device to translate between different cable pull ratios then cable clamping changes are. Most of the cable clamping changes I've worked on loose their accuracy at the limits of the der's range while ShiftMates maintain the cable pull difference through the entire range. Andy

Thanks Andy! This is helpful. I agree with you on the shiftmate. I have a shiftmate, 9 speed ergo, shimano 9 speed cassette, and derailleur and it works great. However it is a 1x9. I want to go back to a double and happen to have a complete ergo set. I suppose worst case scenario I can use my right ergo and left barcon if vanity doesn't get the best of me.

Do you know if the hubub works fine on long cage setup like a shimano m591? If a double is not in my future maybe I can get the range with a long cage??

Campy 10 + shimano 8S cassette + Shimano RD indexes just fine w/o Shift Mate.


Never had any front shifter/FD issues.

I'm a fan of Shiftmates too. They work very well and shift accurately all across the cassette. I've used them in three situations with very good results.

Campy 10-speed Ergos mated to a Shimano rear derailleur and Shimano 9-speed cassette
Campy 10-speed Ergos mated to a Shimano rear derailleur and a Shimano 10-speed cassette
Shimano 10-speed STI shifters mated to a Campy rear derailleur and a 10-speed Campy cassette.

The second two configurations used the same #3 Shiftmate but with the pulley reversed between the second and third.
