Powertorque cups won't engage threads on steel shell - help please!
Hello all,
I am having an issue fitting powertorque threaded cups into my steel frame (Concorde Squadra). The cups just slide straight into the frame, it's like they are too narrow to engage the threads. I've got no idea if the BB shell is English or Italian threaded. I assumed English, but this Squadra was made by Ciocc so it could be Italian... I removed the old BB, which was a square taper Shimano Un70. What is the issue, please? Could it be that I've got the wrong BB for the shell? If anyone can help, I'd be very grateful. |
If your old bottom bracket screwed in, and the new one is so small that it just slides in without hitting threads, then your bottom bracket shell is Italian.
Look at the old bottom bracket. It should say 36x24 on it somewhere. |
If the LHS screwed in clockwise, same as the right-hand side, it is Italian. Italian ones are also slightly bigger, as mentioned in the previous post.

Thank you for your help and I will buy another set of cups.
