Shimano 4700 compatibility query
Hi !
I have the 4700 crankset, Fd and Rd. The brifters are pretty expensive , hence I was looking at bar ends. I have read online, that the pull ratio of Shimano 11 speed shifters is similar to the tiagra 4700. if this is true ! can I use Microshift 11 speed bar ends with my 4700 rear derailleur (with a 10 speed cassette) I would be thankful if someone who has the same setup ,could chime in. |
The der. pull ratio is compatible with 11 speed derailleurs (and, hence, shifters). However, 11 speed shifters would require an 11 speed cassette in order to shift properly. So front shifting would work fine, but for the rear to work, you either need 11 speed cassette and 11 speed shifters, or compatible 10 speed shifters of other make. So far, the only ones I know are the 4700 shifters.

Wow ! Bike Gremlin
I was just reading this stuff on your page, it is an honour to chat with you. Do you have any solution for this to work since I have some of the parts |
No, it won't work. The cog spacing is different between 10 and 11 speed. An 11speed shifter (other than 4700) won't shift far enough to engage a 10s cassette.
The simple solution is to get an 11s cassette and just convert to 11s. |

You mean I could keep the same crankset , rd and fd and just get a cassette and 11speed bar ends , that should work right ?
I'm also assuming Microshift and Shimano are compatible. |
And a 11 speed chain will work fine with a 4700 crankset and rd ?
