Which 9 speed mountain DER

I have a gravel bike with Tiagra 4600 shifters and I need to replace my failing 10 speed Tiagra DER. I borrowed a Deore 591 9 speed mountain DER from my other bike and I swear it is easier, smoother, and more accurate than the Tiagra DER ever was.. That being said, I never used a Deore XT RD-M772 before. Is it worth 2x the price over the Deore 591 or the shadow version Deore 592? Would I be missing out on anything if I didn't get one of those instead? I have an inline barrel adjuster so that's not an issue.

Once you get to the Deore level you'll notice the biggest difference in the shifters. I would get the Deore RD and switch your shifters out for XT.

I sounds like it's a drop bar bike.

Yes, drop bar and brifters. I ended up getting a Deore 592 DER. The XT M772 looked good but I'm satisfied with durability and price of the 591/592.

The M592 is a great choice; if you have some sort of cable adjuster not on the RD. Another great choice is the MicroShift Mezzo Long Cage 8/9 speed RD, which has a 36T max rear cog rating and a cable adjuster.

for half the price of a M592. I have bikes with both RDs; future purchases will be the MicroShift. I also have bikes with SRAM X.9 and X.7 RDs. The four are about equal in performance on the road. I can not speak about rough stuff.
