Dust cap is squeaking

Hello,

I have a 2016 gt grade sora with disc brakes.
On my front hub, the dust cap that covers the hub bearing (I'm assuming) does not spin with the rest of the wheel. This produces a slight rubbing noise, imagine rubber against smooth metal. I know this dust cap should spin with the wheel as the other dust caps do, but it appears that the dust cap stops spinning and is fixed with the nut that goes inside the fork that i think provides bearing tension on the wheel when you tighten the qr skewer

Any ideas how I might fix this? Ive spun the wheel to determine that the bearings aren't bad. My non educated test included spinning the wheel not on the fork or with the qr skewer released but still on the fork as well as in the fork with the qr skewer closed.

In all cases the wheel will spin smoothly until it stops (not abruptly) but only when the qr skewer is closed will the dust cap stop spinning with the wheel.

Any ideas?

The whining noise is irritating.

Thanks

First thing is that some press around external "rubber" dust seals are fixed to the axle by having a hex shaped ID meant to snug around the axle's lock nut. So if this style is yours then it not spinning with the wheel is correct. But a small drop of oil at the outer edges will usually lube the contact and quiet the squeak. We do this often on bikes we sell and service.

If the QR closing changes the way things spin then something might be wrong. Like a too tight bearing adjustment. You might wish to be more concerned about this potential. Andy
