Rotor touching disc brake pads problem

I need help with my bike which the rotor is touching the brake pads.. I only know how to align rim brakes only :(

StumpyJR 05-07-17 07:28 PM

I have always loosened the screws holding the calipers to the frame, then I squeeze the brakes while the screws are still loose, and tighten the caliper screws while keeping the lever squeezed. This should center it pretty well. It may require some tweeking to get it perfect.

Are the pads touching the rotor all of the way around its rotation or only in spots? If it touches all around the alignment procedure StumpyJR suggests may suffice. If it touches only in certain spots the rotor may be warped and need to be trued. A small adjustable wrench can be used to bend the rotor back into true, after removing the caliper for working room.

Before you do anything drastic like bend the rotor, make sure the caliper is centered with the slot for the disc exactly even on both sides of the rotor, and make sure the pistons are pushed back. Make sure the wheel itself is properly seated.

Brand and model of brakes?

Set up 101... hold the brake on, loosen the bolts that hold the caliper to the adapter .(or post mount)

then still holding the brake on, re tighten the bolts.. mechanical discs need the inside pad to be very close,

because the out side pad pushes the disc into the inside pad..

Get a copy of the brake service manual from its Mfgr's website.

Thanks to everyone for helping me. My local lbs trued my wheel because it was touching in different spots. Now I don't hear rubbing noises anymore and again thanks.
