Bottom Bracket for KHS
Have a 1989 KHS Montana Summit.
The bottom bracket started making noise today. :( Anyone know offhand what size and thread I need? Crankset is a triple ring. Any suggestions on a good replacement that is not Shimano? (Sorry, I do not like Shimano bicycle components ... or fishing gear, for that matter.) |
The threading is certainly English. The bb shell width should be either 68 mm or 73 mm so a measurement will tell you which.
FSA and SRAM, among others, make non-Shimano cranks. |
Probably 113mm, but remove first and measure.
Buy this on if square taper JIS English: https://www.universalcycles.com/shop...0&category=268 |

The bottom bracket started making noise today. :( Anyone know offhand what size and thread I need? Crankset is a triple ring. Matching the frame is the easy part. Your KHS is going to be English threaded and the frame's bottom bracket shell will be either 68 or 73 mm across. Just measure it with a ruler to confirm. Matching the spindle length to the crankset isn't quite as easy. You may be able to look up the required spindle length for your particular crankset model. Or you can remove the crank arms and measure the spindle length with a caliper. Once you've got the threading (English), shell width, and spindle length, it's time to go bottom bracket shopping.
