Stem for Northrock SC7
I have a Northrock SC7. It has an adjustable stem, and the teeth are worn down. At the bike shop they said they'd need to special order the part, which would be $50, so I wanted to see if was possible to find it cheaper. Could someone tell be the right part to look for?
Also, I suppose I could live with a stem that isn't adjustable, as long as it fits. |
Just buy a new one it will be cheaper and better. There are many adjustable stems out there. Roger

Adjustable stems are a sales tool only... the correct non-adjuable stem will weigh far less, and cost less, too. Since that weight is high up on the bike, you WILL feel the difference.
find a local shop that sells used parts, or look on your local Craigslist for stems of a similar reach and a lift similar to where you had your adjustable paper weight set at, then save yourself some cash and weight. |
Thanks, for the suggestions. I decided to just go on ebay and buy what seemed to be a similar part to the original, since I found it pretty comfortable before it got stripped. However, when I installed it, I realized that the bottom part was a little narrower than the original - about 7/8" instead of 1". Is this a problem?

You need to supply good pictures for us to tell you how much of a problem. The range is from don't care to you'll be in the hospital if you are lucky if you ride it. |
Well, I'll just buy another one and be more careful this time. I've never done anything like this before.

Like the adjustable stem how? cranked up high? get a fixed one with that angle.
