Old trek 820 front shifter doesn't click

On the front three gears the button moves and the derailleur arm moves, but returns to small gear. There is no click on the push button which I am guessing is what holds the arm in position over the larger two gear sets. The rear button works good. It clicks and holds it's position and the smaller button allows it to return.

Visit your Trek Dealer, all I can say from here is Buy a new shifter, they can sell you a left one, separately.

Before a new shifter try flushing it with WD-40. Often the grease gets hard and the pawl that catches hangs up. If the flush takes care of it relube with some light lube like triflow. While you're at it do the rear one too.
