Changing from Ultegra 6500 to Sram Red22
Hi all!
I have an old (2003ish) Ciocc v103 frame I just love, and want to make the switch from my Ultegra 6500 9spd to an 11 spd drivetrain.
I'm really new to changing bottom brackets/cranks. What tools specifically would I need to pull the Ultegra cranks and bottom bracket, and then install the SRAM Red22 BB and cranks? I'm pretty competent and can beg/borrow/buy most bike tools cheap from my job.
Thanks in advance!
-Alex

You need:
-A crank puller: The Park CWP-7 will pull square taper and ocatlink/isis BBs, and is cheaper than a tool with a dedicated handle.
-The correct BB tool for the Octalink BB is a park BBT-22.
-The correct BB tool for the SRAM GXP BB is a BBT-9 or 19. The 19 is convenient to use, the 9 can be used in conjunction with a torque wrench and stores more easily.
-The GXP cranks install and uninstall using only an 8mm hex wrench.
These are all extremely common bike specific tools. If your Ciocc's drive side BB threads out with standard threading (ie, lefty-loosie) you have an Italian BB, and will need an Italian GXP BB. The other indicator is that Italian BBs are 70mm wide, and BSA/ISO BBs are 68mm.

The OP should not need a crank puller. The FC-6500 arms had seff-extractors so all he needs is an 8 mm hex wrench. Otherewise, your list is correct.
As to bottom bracket threading, the current bottom bracket should have either "1.37"x24 tpi" (English) or "36 mm x24 tpi (Italian) engraved on it and that will tell him which he needs as a replacement.
