Chainring confusion

My 1998 tandem has a Shimano 105 triple (FC-1057) crank, 53/42/30. 130mm BCD. The 42T ring is bent, and 53T is worn. I want to replace both (in silver please) plus the chain and hopefully upgrade to something higher grade in the same tooth counts.

I am having a hella hard time finding a direct replacement set. I believe these are A-Type according to Sheldon. My searches would have me mixing 105 and D/A if I stick with the A-type.

And I have an 8-speed FW if that matters.

Need some input on choices. I have heard that non-Shimano rings don't shift as well. B-type changes me away from 42T on the middle ring.

TIA

Make sure that the rings you get are for a triple, it seems like triple rings have geometry specifically for how they shift. I tried to put a double 39 on a triple once and shifting was definitely less than smooth.

upgrade to a newer design. you will be very pleased by the quicker shifting.

there are lots of 130bcd sprockets on Ebay.... even a set of the old design right now.

upgrade.

I think my search terms were too specific. Found a few Ultegra rings that should do. Working the purchase now - thanks.

cool... the ultegra rings are better... newer ramp/pin tech has improved the shifting dramatically.

Don't worry about the A or B type. Either will work. And you are on a tandem, it's not like that millisecond in shifting speed will really matter.

FWIW, I still use non-ramped chainrings, while I can't blindly shift under load, I have never had any problems shifting.
