SRAM G9 phantom neutral

I recently picked up a new bike with a SRAM G8 internal 8 speed hub. When under relatively mild load the drive finds a neutral when shifting from 4th into 5th. Its enough to send your groin into the top bar every time it catches you out. All the other gears are fine. If I'm not putting any load on the pedals it shifts fine. I took it back to the bike shop and they said it just needed some adjustment, which they did, then sent me home. It still happens. Does anyone know what the issue might be? Does it sound like a fault? Does it sound normal for these hubs?
Its my first SRAM, my Shimano 3 speed internal doesn't do this. Any help appreciated.
