Shimano rings on SRAM crank?

I have a SRAM Apex compact crankset (10-speed, 50T/34T, 110 BCD, 5-bolt) on my bike. I'd like to replace the 50 tooth ring with a 46. Searching the web I found a Shimano CX70 ring (46T outer, 110 BCD, 5-bolt) at Amazon that is very affordable at $37. However, someone posed a question and the seller's answer has me baffled:

Question: Hi there! It's compatible with sram rival crankset 10speed?
Answer: no its just for the shimano cx70 crank you would need a sram chainring

Is the seller's response correct? What am I missing?

Thanks,

Jean

they mix and match just fine....

as long as you get a similar design(ramped/pinned, or plain non-ramped... inner/inner, middle/middle, outer/outer) you should have no worries.

SRAM, FSA, Vuelta, Shimano, etc.... all fit when sized correctly... and you've selected the appropriate one, it sounds like.

the only oddball 110 BCD rings i've ran across are campagnolo ultra-torques... they have ONE screw hole that is 112 BCD, instead of 110.

All that matters is that it's the same BCD and number of holes. I've mixed and matched Shimano, SRAM, Sun Tour, TA, and FSA cranks and chain rings.
