Shimano hub nut question
While replacing spokes on WH-M770 rear wheel RS I noticed the following.
The original hub nut end was flush with the hub surface, and didn't have a notch to screw it on to the spoke. The new hub nut (Y4CK89000) had a notch, but the end of the hub nut protruded about 1mm even after tensioning the spoke during truing. This happened on both new hub nuts and spokes. My question is if this is normal. That is, is the hub nut fully inserted with its 1mm protrusion or will it eventually settle in, and the spoke will loose some of its tension? New spokes come with plug(nipple) and washer, but the hub nuts have to be ordered separately. I bit strange! Any advice is appreciated. |
sounds like an update situation, to me... ride it.

Shimano hub nut update.
After riding the bike for 4 hours I checked the condition of the two replaced spokes/hub nuts. The hub nut position was the same as after I had tension the spokes. That is, their protrusion of 1mm from the face of the hub, as mentioned above remained the same after the ride. So the new hub nuts are different from the original that lay flush on the hub surface. |
