Campy front derailleur replacement

Dear gurus,

I've broken the bottom connecting pin on the front clamp-on derailleur of my 2011 11-speed SR groupset and assume I need to replace the whole derailleur, but I don't think I can just go out and buy a current model SR front derailleur and expect it to work with the (2011) shifters. Does anyone know what models/years I can buy that will work?

Muchas gracias, Julian H

campy front der. pull ratio changed in 2015....chorus and record were mentioned...

just find an older than 2015 model number... no, i don't have more specific numbers to give you... i don't use campy stuff, and don't recommend it.

a campy dealer can provide more specific info.

Good question for @gfk_velo who is resident Campagnolo parts compatibility expert.

Pre 2015 FD Chorus, Record or Super Record will be fine.

They are available in Braze On format only from the factory on a spare parts code rather than a current range code so depending on where you are, you may need to contact an IBD and ask them to order from your market's wholesalers - as most of the box-movers don't list them as an available item (most of them don't seem to know what spare parts are or have any interest at all in selling them ...)

The code will be
Chorus: FD-11CH2BSP
Record: FD-11RE2BSP
Super Record: FD-11SR2BSP

(Front Derailleur - 2011 range, Model range, double, braze-on, Spare Part)

You will need a clamp to convert Braze-on to band on. The genuine Campagnolo clamp positions the FD correctly with respect to the tube fore-aft and offset from tube centre line (other clamps usually allow you to play with this positioning but unless you know where the position *should be* and can measure it from the dims given in Campagnolo's Technical Manual, shifting quality can be very variable). The clamps come in 32 mm nominal or 35 mm nominal, black alloy:

DC6-RE2B
DC12-RE5B

There is also DC6-RE2S, the same clamp in silver.

Also available (just for information) and on the same basis, the pre 2015 ErgoPower levers and the pre 2015 mechanical rear derailleurs.

The old style of front derailleur has the bar for the cable bolt going horizontal.
The new style has the bar more or less vertical.

The difference is quite recognizable if browsing on E-Bay.

Other differences?

I'm not sure if there is any other difference. I've been using the new style, vertical pull with my 1st generation (white label) SR shifters. It seems to shift fine, although it doesn't seem to take much force to pull the derailleur from the big ring to the small ring, and it will sometimes drop on hill climbs. Perhaps I should try an older generation derailleur to see if it holds the sprockets better.

The internal shaping in the cage is slightly different to improve upshift in combination with 2015+ chainrings and the 2015+ cage is also slightly narrower to better control the chain on downshift.

The reason for the new lever is two-fold - it's designed, by having a higher clutch release tension and different internal cable bushing design to prevent the problem that you have seen of the chain dropping big ring to small on occasion whilst allowing for easier upshift with the long actuator arm, and the "bar" that has been designed in to prevent more than a "two click" sweep on the thumb lever is there to improve the shifting under load on compact-style cranksets, reducing the risk of the chain falling to the inside.

Hence the recommendation to use a 2015+ ever with a 2015+ FD and the reason to keep making the older-design FD and levers / lever bodies ...

2015+ SR11sp FDer parallelogram removal

Anybody know the trick neessary for removing the pivot arms of the 2015+ Campy SR!!sp Front Derailleurs? Used to be that just one circlip or 3mm allen bolt needed to be removed from the top pivot and the whole parallelogram thing would slide right off. Now it appears that Campy force fit the two upper pivots after positioning the pivot arms,

I don't know where you are located but I believe the Athena 11 pre 2015 front derailleur may work and you can find a braze-on version of it at Cycles Marinoni in Montreal. I am not yet allowed to post a link so you may have to google them to ask if it will work.
As was stated above, you will also have to buy a derailleur clamp.

Two newbies in a row resurrecting a 5 year old thread that has nothing to do with the original question
