Converting STI Shifters to Bar Ends.

I am interested in possibly converting the STI shifters on my Nashbar CX1 to bar end shifters. I've had bar ends in the past and liked the feel of them and ability to go from one end of the cassette to the other. I'd love to go with Gevanalle Shifters but they are kinda pricey. How much work would be involved going to bar ends? These would be 9x2 Shimano.

Dedicated brakes, cables and housing, bar tape, along with shifters.

It wouldn't be hard. Look around online for deals on brake levers. They're not prohibitively expensive. Get those, the shifters, and probably new cables and bar tape, depending on how careful you are.

I like STI, it would feel like a huge step backward to me. If you like it though, it's totally possible.

Price wise off eBay, maybe $160/$170 for Dura Ace bar end shifters, Tektro brake levers, cable and housing, and handlebar tape. Maybe $40 less for Microshift shifters.

I found Microshift bar ends on ebay for $50 w/free shipping. Adding everything up, it actually might make more sense to go with Gevenalle Shifters. They might be more straight forward of an install as well.

To save money, couldn't someone just continue to run the existing STI levers for the brakes rather than buy new brake levers? Remove shift cables and call it a day.

If you really like the location of barends then the Gevenalle "brifters" aren't what you want. If you like the location of STI's but want the ability to sweep the cassette in one motion, then the Gevenalle brifters are just what you want.

Probably get decent bucks re selling the brifters..
