Help me help folks in Houston
First of all, I'm posting this here because this is where I have the most friends (defined loosely), but if the mods decide there's a better place, I'm OK with wherever they move it.
I was contemplating a gift to Direct Relief to help folks in Houston, and trying to decide how to leverage it to maximum effect. So, I came up with the idea of motivating others to donate also.
Here's the idea.
You donate whatever you're comfortable with, but more than $25.00. Email me the receipt, along with your address and I'll send you a 4oz. bottle of Chain-L.
One way to look at it is that I'm doubling what I'd send if I sent the entire proceeds of 100 sales. Or you might say that I'm giving you back up to half of your donation.
But the goal is to get 100 of you to help, rising at least $2,500, which is many times what I would have given if I sent cash, and let's not forget that my actual cost for the product I send you ain't hay, so it's not like it's an empty gesture.
One reason I'm structuring it this way is so everybody knows that their donation is going to where it belongs and I'm not deducting my costs in any way.
I mentioned Direct Relief, but if someone has a preference for another charity helping in Houston, I'm open to that.
One last point, if anyone here is in the bike industry, or another business, and wants to join me with a similar goods for charity idea, I'd welcome it and suggest you add yours to mine here, plus reach out through other networks.
So, my goal is limited to 100 donations totaling at least 2,500, but hopefully many of you won't be thinking minimum.
Thanks for reading.
*****send me the receipt and your address using the email link (not PM) here on BF.

Done. Just so everyone knows "Direct Relief" is one of the highest rated charities in the U.S. Almost all of your donated money will be directed to those who need it rather than administrators. Thanks FBinNY, very thoughtful.

I made a donation and convinced my company to match it and other employees' donations. Other companies may have similar matching programs, worth asking.
