Damage on valve hole in carbon wheels

I just received a bike that I purchased from ebay and noticed that there are some damages near valve hold in the carbon wheel. It's Mavic Carbone SL. I'm pretty new to carbon wheels. Are these type of damage common? Are these something I should worry about? Will it develop damages as I ride along?

Also I noticed a clear cut holes around the rim. It's in the last photo. Why there are such holes? I think I see 3 holes in each wheel.

Thanks!

No, that type of damage is not common. It looks like someone drilled the holes out to fit larger Schrader valves, and/or tighten the Presta nut too tight and crushed the carbon.

The good news is that the Carbone SL isn't really a carbon wheel. It's an aluminum wheel with an aerodynamic carbon fairing, so the carbon isn't really structural. Still if that damage were un-disclosed in the ebay listing, you should be entitled to return or get a significant discount.

The 3 small holes around the rim are intentional. They're probably related to how the wheel is fabricated or un-attached. Don't worry about them. The might even be extra drain holes, since water can get in at the spokes.

@gsa103 Thanks for your input. Glad that the carbon is not structural. Is it safe to ride in this condition? Will it develop crack further? I will contact the seller as this wasn't disclosed.

the small holes are drain holes. the damage near the valve is from over tightening the nut. yes it is a fairing not structural
