That may be true in theory, but not necessarily in practice. I've reused pins in 7/8sp chains for years, never had any problems. Didn't dare to do it on 9/10/11 Shimano/Sram though, but did it many times on Campagnolo 9sp, which doesn't have replacement pins AFAIK.

That's right, I have a Campagnolo maintenance manual from the late '90s, 9sp era. It specifies using Campagnolo chain pliers for installing/uninstalling the chain, but doesn't say anything about using new pins.

Find reused pin in chain
Is there any trick to find the pin that was reused?
I didn't know reusing pins was no longer a thing and now that I do I can't find the pin that I rejoined. I can't see any difference between the links. |
