Front derailleur setup indexed shifter
Been trying for hours to put this back they were working perfectly until I removed lever
I am converting this bike to brifters and putting these on another bike wanted to make sure they fit other bike with Suntour shifters.
I don't know if FD is indexed.
I disconnected cable at other end and tried lever in all positioned still no success
I matched the notch on lever and boss
now I cant get them back properly, I never touched RD it's OK, Good job

Well I don't know about the indexing stuff but your LH shift lever is not rotationally correct. I believe this version was designed so that the lever was cocked up from parallel to the tube when in lowest ring. Many of these used a chromed base spacer that butts up against the spacer with a curved back to fit the tube. The interior has a square hole to fit over the boss. Perhaps that base spacer is 90* off as one side of the square shape has a raised form to nestle into the chromed spacer. Some of these levers also had a counter force springs that unwinds the lever if the cable is not attached. Andy

The orientation is wrong.
Take it of and start again.
You may have to turn the silver boss cover 180 degrees. The spring in the shifter needs to be wound up.
There are only a couple of ways to install it and only one correct way.
So trial and error will soon solve the problem.

Any spring will be internal to the shifter's "core". But it's easy to figure out. Remove the cable and move the lever one way then the other and feel for a spring tension. Again, I haven't memorized the Shimano feature/model list since the early 1980s. This model doesn't have a spring I believe but I mentioned it in case my assumption is wrong. Andy
