Campy 10 speed derailleurs

Are Campy fronts specific to doubles/triples?

Campagnolo even had compact double specific (CT) 10-speed derailleurs. You can tell the difference between them and triple parts by the plastic insert on CT derailleurs versus thin slits in the triple cage.

Three derailleur cage configurations, braze-on plus three clamp sizes, lots of gruppos, more SKUs than you could shake a stick at.

A quick semi-hijack question about Campy front triple derailleurs as part of a 10 speed system. Is there an alloy Chorus front triple derailleur? I just picked up a Centaur triple front der but I would like to find a Chorus one, if they exist. I have not yet found one. The only Chorus triple front der I found had a black cover plate.

Can I switch the chain guide bracket from the Centaur to a Chorus alloy double der to make a Chorus triple der?

Yes. Record too, although some years used a steel fork on all triple derailleurs with only the group name varying.

They look like the double derailleurs with black (perhaps painted or powder coated, it does not look anodized) parallelogram, white group name on that, and titanium colored coated aluminum cage. They just don't have the plastic insert at front.

Like this, although Chorus lacks the titanium cable clamp bolt:

So is the only difference between Campy double and triple front ders the chain guide cage? Could I swap a triple chain guide cage onto a double front der and create a working triple? Or is that not really feasible?

It looks like the chain guide is riveted on, so perhaps not feasible.

I suspect the geometry is different to accommodate the triple big ring being farther outboard because I couldn't get a Racing-T derailleur to reliably shift a double without sometimes over-shifting in one direction.

Yes, it's riveted.

Look on ebay and be patient. Campagnolo triple front derailleurs usually sell for under $20 when not NOS and/or stamped "Record."

That makes some logical sense to me, the triple cage is wider than the double so more lateral movement would be necessary than with a double cage.

But, since the cage is riveted, it is probably a moot point anyway.

Thanks for the info, and apologies for the hijack.
