Don't fret. Its a common problem with a couple of fixes. Youtube has some DIY fixes. Dog Ears has a screw on replacement. https://www.dogearsgps.com/replacement-plate. I'm sure if you dive into the Googlesphere you'll be able to find others.

Contact Garmin first. They often top notch customer service.

Your Edge 500 should be a long out of warranty as they were discontinued years ago, so the dogears will be about the cheapest fix. However Garmin has a flat rate repair which will get you a refurb'd unit for $89.00

But it doesn't hurt to call Garmin first. You never know when you'll get a rep that decides you are going to be the lucky person to get something for free.
