Don't fret. Its a common problem with a couple of fixes. Youtube has some DIY fixes. Dog Ears has a screw on replacement. I'm sure if you dive into the Googlesphere you'll be able to find others.

Contact Garmin first. They often top notch customer service.

Your Edge 500 should be a long out of warranty as they were discontinued years ago, so the dogears will be about the cheapest fix. However Garmin has a flat rate repair which will get you a refurb'd unit for $89.00

But it doesn't hurt to call Garmin first. You never know when you'll get a rep that decides you are going to be the lucky person to get something for free.
