Slack chain - too long? Derailleur adjust?

I just installed a 50/34 crankset with an 11-32 cassette I’m using a mid cage ultegra derailleur the r8000 model. The chain is too slack I’m trying to figure out if I can adjust something to tighten up the chain or if I have to remove links from my chain. The chain is 116 links long.

The usual method is to size the chain by removing links (or adding). Any der adjustments are to affect shifting, not deal with chain length. Some believe the "B" screw is to deal with chain length but it's real purpose is to set the gap between the guide pulley and the largest cog. Too large a gap and the shifting gets slow and less responsive. Too little and the chain acts as a splint between the large cog and guide pulley, effectively trapping the der under that cog.

The chain should be long enough to span the largest cog and ring combo AND not then allow droop when in the small/small combo. Chains come a bit longer then most bikes need because the chain manufacturer doesn't know what your bike or it's gearing are.

As a side bar I recently see some chains available in 120 links. I guess those 42T cogs take more chain to get around them then what was expected in the past. Andy

All you ever need to know about chain sizing.

Have fun.....

Awesome. I wasn’t sure about the derailleur thing. And it didn’t make sense to me. I’m definitely going to cut the chain I discovered another video by park tool on how to size your chain.
