FSA Vero crankset R side pedal size? WTF?
Purchased this online for a bike I'm building with my son for his use. The left side is just fine -- but the right side pedal threads are bigger than the 9/16" by a long shot. (See photos). Any idea what is going on here? I am also attaching photos of the pedal threads of both sides without the pedal attached/dangling. It nearly looks as if the right side is missing some kind of an insert? Thanks for any ideas.

'Bit hard to tell from the photos, but the right side may have been previously repaired with a heli-coil and the heli-coil came out with the pedal. Did the bike come to you with pedal? If yes, take a look at the right pedal.

PO probably didn't use pedal washers either. Should you choose to have the hole repaired again, I highly recommend you use them, and don't overtighten your pedals. I tiny bit past snug is all they need.

Yep that's my guess too. Those inserts should go in with red loctite and never come out.

I'm thinking this is easier? Should there be a stock size that fits?
I'm a bit put out with the PO right now..... grrrrrr....

So you'll have to find a shop that has the repair kit. You probably don't want to buy it yourself, it ain't cheap. If yours already got tapped for the correct insert then it should be just a matter of cleaning the hole and replacing the insert (with red loctite this time. And letting it cure completely before riding.)

Your a bit lucky that it's the drive side crank arm since the threads are standard right-handed. 1/2"-20 helicoils are rare enough but left-hand threaded ones are even rarer. It's strictly a bike shop item.

Thanks, guys. I have a good LBS. I'll likely just take it to them and ask their opinion on whether or not the crank is worth saving. There are threads on the bad side, but I am not sure how to figure out if a helicoil would fit as it is now threaded, so .....
On the plus side, I contacted the guy who sold me the crank, and he refunded my money when he found out the threads were like this. So there is some good in the world.

The thread repair insert you linked to says it is not compatible with Helicoil, might be best to determine what thread it was opened up to, before purchasing a repair insert.

Yeah that is the standard repair insert in the link, it's really more like a time-sert type, not a heli-coil. IIRC the outside thread is 5/8" x 24tpi. That's a standard extra-fine size. The finer thread is supposed to make it less likely to unscrew than the pedal thread. Obviously doesn't always work out that way.
