Cateye Velo 5 ODO setting
 

guys, Im terribly sorry for a noob question - but how on earth I can set my own ODO value on Cateye velo 5?

I know how to reset it and all, but unable to find any info on how to set my own values for the ODO setting...

pleaseeeee help! :)

Basically, you can't re-enter mileage into the ODO. You can zero it by battery removal, or conversely if the battery dies
you lose your ODO and all other settings. Cateye used to have 2 button versions that would allow
re-entry of the ODO info with battery change, but the single button models do not allow this.
Pissed me off when I found this out a few years ago when my 2 button models from 2000-2005
started going bad.

Cat-Eye still offers a couple of models that allow resetting the odometer. The Velo 9 and Velo 7 both do but I don't think any of their other models have this feature. My older Enduro 8 and Mity 8 allowed this and I was concerned that Cat-Eye had discontinued the feature but, not completely so when they eventually die I'm still good.

Yes its annoying I've also a Velo 5 along with several other Cateye units, along with Polar units, its a real pain to loose the ODO function as you swap units between bikes. I also have a simple Excel sheet where I record trips this includes the bike I use distance etc so I do keep a master copy, handy for keeping track on total mileage on chains etc.

Unless you buy exotic cyclocomputers with GPS, heart rate, etc, plain ones are cheap enough that having a dedicated one for each bike isn't that much of a cost. The Velo 5 is certainly low cost enough to have a few.

thank you for replies. thats what I suspected :/ Previously I had velo9 and it allowed to edit ODO.

"disgrace" is a strong word for a practice of offering cheaper items with fewer features. It's certainly nice to be able to set the ODO readout. I have a Mity three of my bikes that allows manual programming of ODO, but there is a Velo on the bike I keep in Boulder that has the same limitation as yours.
FWIW, I keep track of my per-bike mileage (usually measured by an on-bike cyclocomputer) in a spreadsheet. So if I get a new cyclocomputer that isn't re-settable, the math is easy.

Agree & sorry for mis-understanding maybe I worded my previous comment wrong, I've had these bike speedos on many bikes for many years, several ones I let go to friends in the past, what I meant was that I'll have a unit on a bike for a few years maybe then I'll move to another bike as bikes go, & another one comes in: I do not swap them from bike to bike each time I take a different one out. As a basic unit for showing distance & average the Velo 5 is fine, one ones I use for longer pedals now all have heart rate display as well.
