diamondback

Hi All,
I have a Diamond back bmx that belonged to my son (dirt bike accident brain and spinal injury). I was thinking of selling to help him out. Was wondering if it had any value, pretty sure alloy frame.
Has two lots of numbers on it. W1012-0 and ACL03D070298
Thanks in advance

First of all, sorry to hear 'bout the accident. Best wishes to you and him.

As for the value of the bike, I'm not sure how much help the frame markings or serial number are going to be. Age of the bike, particular model, and condition will largely determine its value. Those would be pretty easy to assess with pictures, but may be difficult for you to give us in words.

It's unlikely the bike has much value since Diamondback has never been a marquee brand, but there are plenty of us who'd be willing to take a look just in case. To put it into a non-bicycle context, Diamondback is kinda like Chevrolet -- there have been a few nice bikes in their lineup over the years, but also lots of models that won't make collectors drool. For every Corvette, there are thousands of Chevettes and Cavaliers.

Additionally, this is the "bicycle mechanics" forum. As you have a BMX bike have you considered the "BMX" forum?

Some BMXers put expensive aftermarket parts on their bikes that can have a good resale value. You might want to take it to a local shop that specializes in BMX and get an estimate.

there has been a brand name selling is the basic idea ..

diamond-goose are not the same companies owning the brand, as they were in the 80's where the reputation was made worth someone else buying..

I expect you are too young to know that history.

Serial numbers on bikes are not much help, nothing like a VIN on a car which can tell you almost everything about the vehicle. What you need is an expert eye to look at the bike. Bicycles, just like cars, depreciate quickly unless they have collector value, which is hard to come by. Find a bike shop in your area that specializes in BMX bikes and take it there, you can get an idea about whether it is worth selling. Or, take a good series of photos and ask in the BMX forum on this site. However, you have to think about whether this is worth the effort. At this time you have to focus your energy on supporting your son. Using hours and hours of your time to try to sell something that may not have that much value may not be helpful.

I know the history. Walmart doesn't and hasn't sold DB, we weren't talking about mongoose. DB is owned by Accell.

And one of fietsbob's rare, coherent posts went right over your head.
