Get off the seat and stand up when pedaling. If it still creak then it’s not the seat/seatpost. Take pedals off and clean them and put some new grease on them. That solved my problem.

I've also had the cable cut too long from the FD and the cable end would touch the crank only in the little ring.

it still creaks out of the saddle. the sound is more like the crumpling of an aluminium soda can at a slower pace.

will try to oil the pedal threads tomorrow....

Did you check Sheldon's page, or the search for similar issues that I referenced earlier? It's a waste of time to explore random guesses before doing logical, organized troubleshooting. A creak could be BB mounting issues, chainring bolt looseness/corrosion, contamination at the pedal/crank/bb interface, pedal cage flex, cleats, etc.

And then... there's that tab on zipper of that saddle bag that's lashed to the seat.

I don't worry about crank creaking. I can't hear it over the creaking in my old knees anyway.

yes, but no help...

Sheldon's diagnostics are based on cyclical creaks, tied to pedalling or wheel rotation. mine is random, irregular.

I had that too.. solved by getting a 1/8" longer pedal spindle, as the ball of my foot, especially wearing toe covers, would rub against the crankarm.

Have you checked the headset? I thought my BB on the mtb was creaking but it was somewhat random and slightly cyclical. Turns out the headset was flexing with dried up grease and making noise.
