a guy is offering these training wheels to me for cheap, but I can't seem to find any ksyrium elite wheels that look like this? the ones that i recall are reinforced at the spoke holes. these are not. anyone know about these?

I had an old set that looked exactly like these, from hub to decals. If you are asking about the raised part of the lower rim bridge at the spokes the older models did not have them, looked like a conventional rim.

thanks. any idea how old they might be?

I wish I had that kind of memory, I would bet various Ksyriums have been passing through the family for more than 10 years, probably 15. We like them.

The Ksyrium Elite underwent a substantial re-design in 2010, but was available for quite a few years prior. I have a set from 2006 that don't look much like the set pictured.
But to the best of my recollection none of the Elites (either pre- or post-2010) had the machined rims where the sections between spokes were lower than the sections where the spokes were mounted. I was under the impression that you needed to look to a more upscale Ksyrium model to get that feature; the Elites are the entry-level Ksyrium.

so pre 2010? what kind of redesign did they do? maybe 200g weight reduction? any loss of rim or hub rigidity going with these older models?

Bob Ross 03-12-18 11:56 AM

I don't recall specifically all the changes that were made in 2010. I'm pretty sure there was some weight reduction, but don't know if it was on the order of 200g ...though that's plausible, the pre-2010 wheels were somewhere around 1800g iirc. I'm almost positive that they changed some of the hub internals, because I think the redesign was partly in response to all the complaints about the dreaded "Ksyrium Shrieking Hub" issue.

The ones pictured in the OP do not look like my pre-2010 Ksyriums, so my guess would be that those are post-2010.
But that is just a guess.

anyone know where i can find the spoke wrench for this thing? I have a mavic spoke wrench, but it's too big for these wheels...

easyupbug 03-14-18 07:31 AM

You have to measure the diameter of the splines, my guess would be either 5.6mm or 6.5mm. Park and others make double ended wrenches to fit.

The Ksyrium Elites that came on my 2010 Cannondale SuperSix have the lower sections between the spokes.

ETA: I have this Lezyne chain tool in my saddle bag. It doubles as a spoke wrench for both ordinary and Mavic nipples.

Ah-ha! I stand corrected, thank you.

The above also give parts breakdown, even spoke lengths and tension.
