Derailluer Hanger for 2018 Giant Escape 2

My friend bent the hanger on his Escape 2. I am repairing it. I brought the old one to the local Giant dealer. The dealer gave me Hanger #167. Which was the number I kept coming up with during online search. However the new one has a metal flange around the drop out that the old one didn't and thus it doesn't fit.

I called the dealer this morning. They verified that the 2018 Escape 2 model on their shop floor does not have this flange but using their Giant resources cannot get this hanger, only the #167 that has the flange. They want to bench grind off this flange so that it will seat properly. This might be my friends only option but I wanted to put this out there in case there are any Giant folks knowledgeable about this situation. Personally I find it hard to believe

If the flange is really the only difference I would mill it off in a heartbeat; I'm not big on grinding aluminum.

Had to replace one on my 2017 last year and the 167 fit perfect. When you say the flange on the dropout are you talking about the part the rear derailluer adjusts back and forth on on the hanger?

Photos of the derailleur hanger would be helpful.

Wheels Manufacturing derailleur hanger 167 does not appear to have a flange of any kind.

I think the frame differs from 2017 to 2018. I posted a pic

I see what you mean now. Strange that they would be considered the same hanger number. The frame must be different then...

Thanks for the pic. Something changed between model years is my guess too but it is odd that they have the same number.

Sometimes the manufacturers take time to release spare parts. I had that issue with a first year Niner bike, couldn't get a derailleur hanger until the bike had been out for a while.

I see the issue.

Hangers with that flange are everywhere.
Without it, very rare.

I think I'd take a file, and in a few minutes, could get it cut down to flat.

Call a different Giant dealer. The design was changed around 2017. Make sure they check for the proper year.

Did you try to bend the original back? This isn't an unusual thing to do with the proper tool. The tool threads in and you basically use brute force to bend it back a little at a time, and it has a feeler gauge so that you make it straight in relation to the wheel. The worst that can happen is you break the hanger, in which case you are back to getting a new one. Best case is that you have it all aligned and shifting becomes a lot quieter. And besides, even if you put a new one on you'll need to make sure it is properly aligned.

None of those hangers that have been posted will fit as I just looked. A guy at Wheels Manufacturing did a one off for me, but it doesn’t look like they have the correct one listed either yet. I would contact Giant, though it will be a PITA.
