Couple Of Cantilever Brake Block Questions

I have an old 80s British Eagle MTB with cantilver brakes and 26" spoked wheels with CTX50 alloy rims. It's only used on road with road tyres. The bike is low miles and the original brakes blocks are now worn down. They're the same as these -

I was going to try to find some new ones the same as originals as in above link. Originals have a length of 50mm/2" approx. I have found some Shimano M65t/t3 blocks (please see link below). My questions are;

The M65t blocks are 65mm long which is 15mm or 5/8" longer than the blocks I have fitted now. Will longer brake blocks work properly on my 26" alloy rims?

The new M65t blocks in link below are asymmetrical unlike the originals. What is the advantage of asymmetrical blocks? Will they be suitable for my bike?

Many thanks for any help and advice.

I would suggest looking at Kool Stop's offerings: Kool Stop International - High Performance Bicycle Brake Pads Since 1977

Thanks for your replies. Looked at the Kool Stops. Eagle 2s seem to be the best option.

Does anyone know if they are curved? Then the extra length wouldn't make any difference.

I use the Koolstop Thinline /dual Compound on my Miyata Two Ten. Happy with how they have performed.

I don't believe the Eagle II's are curved.

In my experience, length of the brake block does not make an appreciable difference; the effectiveness of the pads is more a function of the of the rubber compound used. However, check to make sure that the longer pads won't cause issues with running into the frame,etc. when they are mounted. Can still work if they do (since brake effectiveness only matters when the pads are against the rim), but setting them up could be a bit more of a pain if they are not able to return to their normal "at rest" position when not being activated.

Eagle 2 molded spine brake shoes' edges are bilaterally curved , so 1 shoe is fine for either side..

It takes the shape of being tapered .. a long oval.

SJS Cycles has quite a few Kool Stop cantilever pads. Might be worth a look even if you buy them from your LBS
