Dual Calipers on twenty?

Hey so my twenty has 20" (406) wheels and I plan to upgrade to alloy front wheel for better braking. Now has anyone found a dual caliper that is long enough to reach the wheels on the front fork, I dont know what the drop is from the caliper to the wheel.

Tektro makes some dual pivot long reach calipers. For example the Tektro R559.

You should probably measure the actual reach before ordering.

Is it a Raleigh Twenty? There's a couple enthusiasts on the Classic & Vintage forum. You should look at Sheldon Brown's (RIP) article on his customized Twenty:

To find calipers, first measure the reach:
Then go shopping. Very long reach dual-pivot calipers are rare, but they are out there. I have some of these on an old Schwinn Superior: and they work pretty well.

Which Raleigh "20" do you have? the folding one with "twenty" as the decal or the DL 20 non folding one? Not sure if the OEM calipers/brake reach is different but the bikes are not the same. (But from 20' away they loose similar with 20" tires). Andy (whose DL20, with a SA FW and two cog der setup, has been out on loan for way more then 20 years)

If new wheels are part of the upgrade, you might be able to switch to 451mm 20 inchers which would increase the odds of being able to use dual pivots. I did this once on a bike I built for my grand daughter and it worked out extremely well.

S-A Drum brakes Esp front since 10cm axle widths dominate, will resolve the brake issue.
