My DuraAce bar-end index shifter for my nine-speed rear cassette skips a spot in the middle--it's effectively a friction shifter in the middle of the cassette. I noticed this about the time I put replaced the Tiagra derailleur with a 105. Is the problem in the shifter or the derailleur? Do I need new shifters? Or is there something I else I can do to fix the problem.
My derailleur is only a couple months old. The shifters have 6,000-8,000 miles on them. I've recently replaced the cable and housing.
Even if I don't need new shifters now, is Shimano phasing out the 9-speed DuraAce bar ends?
Thanks.

Usually the problem that you describe is caused by a misaligned derailleur hanger.

Thanks for the suggestion. I took it to the LBS in case you were right. They took apart the shifter and discovered that I had (oops) put one piece in 180 degrees in the wrong direction. They adjusted the derailleur and charged me $5 total (very fair).
