hood cover creep

My "do everything" bike has the Shimano 785 hydraulic brakes/brifters. If you're familiar, these have a somewhat unusual hood shape.

Whenever I peel back the hoods to bleed the brakes or make other adjustments, I wind up over-stretching one or both to the point they will not stay in place when I put them back. As I ride, the hood covers will creep forward/upward out of position.

Last couple of times, I have just replaced them. But I am wondering if there is a good trick to get the hood covers to stay in place. I was thinking of trying hairspray, like some people do for mountain bike grips, but wondering if anyone has a better idea.

Hairspray works for grips, worth a try, eh?

Cut a hole over the bleed screw, in the hood, so you don't have to peel it back?
