FBinNY

He used to post prolifically and was probably the most helpful poster on any of the many forums I frequent. He hasn't been around in a while. Does anyone know how he's doing?

texaspandj 08-15-18 05:37 PM

I've also noticed.

hokiefyd 08-15-18 06:12 PM

It looks like they last logged in on July 31.

I just hope he's in Cozumel having a great time.

alcjphil 08-15-18 09:00 PM

It is summer. Everyone deserves a vacation.

Crankycrank 08-15-18 11:29 PM

Just noticed his Chain-L site is down too. I hope he is OK and just taking a break. If anyone knows anything about him please let us know. I miss his posts and his chain lube is my favorite.

jimincalif 08-16-18 12:06 AM

Yes, his posts are very helpful, hope he's just taking a nice vacation.

JonathanGennick 08-16-18 05:38 AM

I messaged him a while back. He's ok and everything. Just mainly said he had other things going on to keep him busy.

Andrew R Stewart 08-16-18 08:33 AM

I also PM'd Francis a few months ago. He said he got tired of the Bike Forum thing and had other priorities requiring his time and energy. Sounds like when I closed down my store, Bike One, and all kinds of people were telling me how sorry they were for my situation...Meanwhile my wife and I were excited to move on to our next phase of life. Andy

Gresp15C 08-16-18 09:15 AM

I wish him well. Fortunately it seems like whenever I have a question, he's already answered it for someone else, so his record of posts will continue to be a useful resource.

That's good to hear. Thanks for the info.

I can believe it. Needing to constantly argue with ignorant trolls while trying to help people will take its toll after a while. Glad to hear he's doing well.

FBinNY , Thank you, We miss you.

Hi
I really like Chain-L, works great for me. I noticed the Chain-L website is not available. Has Chain-L been discontinued? Will it be available in the future?

I like it too, and I'm at a loss to know what to switch to once my current supply runs down.

I mostly like it for how thick it is, and that I can almost always get in "just one more ride" before reapplying.

Last activity is today, an hour ago. (I noticed his absence for a while. Glad to know he is fine.)

City Guy 08-25-18 03:41 PM

Hi All,

The Chain-L website is back up and working, and my favorite chain lubricant Chain-L is still available. Mr. FBinNY is fine.

Max

Dan Burkhart 08-26-18 07:29 AM

Glad to see the Chain-L site back up. I hope he is just taking a break from the forum and we will hear from him soon.

berner 08-26-18 10:54 AM

FBinNY has wide experience as a cyclist as well in the industry itself. He always has thoughtful and helpful comments. The trolls are sociopaths who delight in clogging whatever activity is going on and they are everywhere.

I still miss East Hill. Donnamb, chipcopp, artkansas, Tom Stormcrowe and a whole buncha others.

RubeRad 10-09-18 05:27 PM

I've also been missing FB for a few months, glad to hear he's still around.

I believe I'm one of his largest customers in the Upper Peninsula. I hate running out of bike stuff, so I tend to stock up. There was a time years ago when I once counted some 30 bottles of lube in my drawer. That was back when I was bouncing all over between brands and trying a bunch of different types. I'm down to a lot less now -- just 12, it looks like.

TallRider 10-10-18 02:51 PM

I'm glad this thread is out there, and I'm glad to hear that Francis is doing fine. I frequently appreciate his repository of knowledge from over the years.
In the meantime, we still have Chain-L, and we still have HillRider (another long-running very knowledgeable poster)

Aladin 09-07-20 01:19 PM

GLAD to hear this.

Francis.. thanks so much for your contributions.

Someone.. should gather those posts for prosperity. Rare nuggets of gold in this internet info world of this empty 21st century... (so far).
