10s Front Mech with 7s Rear Mech??
Background: I have a Sante groupset on my Schwinn. It's 7 speed with the Biopace cranks (52/42). DT shifters were replaced by the previous owner with RSX STI brifters.
Problem: When set-up and maintained, both RD and FD shifts with no headaches.
Questions: If I were to change the front mech (FD and shifter) to 10s: 1) Would it work fine with the old crankset?
2) Would it play well with the 7s rear mech and the 7s chain?
My thinking: There is a difference between 10s chainring spacing and 7s chainring spacing, so using the 7s chain is out of question. As a result, using 10s chain with 7s rear mech would not be optimal.
What are your thoughts?
(Edit: I guess the title is a bit of a misnomer. I meant a 10s compatible front mech. I am aware there are no 10-ring cranks, at least for now )

Try it.. It's not that critical*, 'speeds' does not reside in the derailleur,
* even less so with friction shifting the FD.

The thing is that I have neither the budget nor a reason to try it right now. I was just exploring theoretical possibilities for a future project.

Try it, you'll like it! Hey, Mikey! On the other side, it will work, kinda, but since spacing is different it will be not quite right.
