The basalt rim sides are more to improve wet braking from what I remember. I'm in CA though so it's less of an issue here.
I sometimes replace damaged boutique wheel's damaged rims with Chinese hoops, but the OP's wheel choice here is even cheaper than building them myself.
I notice that the Amazon Chinese wheels do not state what the rim inside width is, which is an important consideration when I choose rims or wheels.
The company does ship from a US warehouse, some Amazon affiliate I assume, but this is far from the commitment to legal accountability in the case of injury that suppliers with US corporate offices must assume.
I also assume that product quality control improves with increased commitment to US-based operations, but some China-direct brands (like Light Bicycle) have achieved a solid reputation. Light Bicycle does now has some non-manufacturing US operations, a sign that they are moving upmarket.
