Shimano 11-speed cassette compatible with Campy?
I was informed that Shimano 11-speed cassettes were compatible with Campagnolo RDs. Is this information correct? Furthermore, assuming it is, will I notice a decrease in performance over a Campagnolo cassette?
I'd obviously prefer to run Shimano cassettes for economic reasons. |
Do not know if ir will work or not be if you were to ride 2 frames that were the same on a very dark night. One with Campy drive train and the other with Schimano I doubt you would be able to tell the difference especially if you did no shifting or braking. Both make comparable good drive trains. Roger

I have no doubts on the quality of Shimano components (although their shifter ergonomics is a different story.) I questioned the potential performance due to its pairing with a drivetrain it was not specifically designed for.

In 11-speed, Shimano and Campy have settled on the same OVERALL spacing. Campy however is rumored not to use the same spacing throughout the cassette. I’d have no concerns running a Campy wheel with a Shimano derailer and drivetrain due to the float in the guide pulley. I have no firm opinion on how forgiving a Campy shifter + derailer is on a Shimano wheel, but it seems likely that it’ll run just fine. |
I have both Dura Ace and Record 11 speed drive trains. Also wheels with Shimano and Campy cassettes. All are completely interchangeable and shift accurately.

When I got the first replacement cassettes on my Chorus 11 and a son-in-law's Athena 11 groups and having nice Shimano 11 hub wheels hanging in the shop we found no issues with tuning or riding. The cog width is the same, the spacing is a whole 0.004" difference as is the cable pull and the total stack like something less than 0.050".

Oh, and we saved a lot of $ and added getting to put some nice wheels back on the road.
