SRAM GXP Bottom Bracket Spacers

For some reason, I'm having a really hard time figuring out how to install an SRAM GXP BB and crank. I bought a new Lynskey franne with a 68mm threaded bottom bracket, and I'm installing a SRAM Force 1 crank (some reason I'm hooked on the idea of building a 1x11 commuter). The SRAM GXP bottom bracket comes with a couple of 2.5mm spacers, and I'm not sure if i need them or not.

The rear hub spacing is 142mm, and I'm running a 11x30mm cassette. I installed the crank without the spacers, and the crank spins freely with no play. Still I wonder if I need the spacers for the chainline? Anyone run into this? SRAM's manual is not very clear.

Thank you!

How does the chain look on the middle cog? Nothing wrong with biasing the chainline either; you can have the chainring point to the middle of the gears you use most, as long as it still works acceptably all the way across.

No spacers are needed when installing a GXP road crank on a 68mm bottom bracket. GXP bottom brackets always come with the spacers, because they are used for both road and MTB applications. The spacers are for use with an MTB crankset when used on a 68mm bottom bracket shell. You are correct that the manual is not clear on this.

Thanks for your responses, that makes sense. I'll leave them off and will see how the chainline turns out.

im thinking you will always need a wavy washer , i have the gxp bsa external bb and no matter what i need at least one small spacer to get rid of the tiniest amount of play that exists in the system , now for my other headache the internal pressfit gxp system i have no fn clue at this point !!!
