Shimano Tourney TX50 7spd Thumb Shifter

Are there any diagrams on this?

On mine the drop down button doesn't work, when i got the bike i saw a white plastic rod (pictured) stuck between the cover and the bar clamp

i can't figure out how to get the top cover off to take a peek

That looks like the gear indicator pointer to me. Looks like a factory defect to me.

It may not be possible to reassemble that shifter once you figure out how to get it apart. That's probably cheap enough that I wouldn't spend too much time screwing with it.

it's the same as this, mate, see the down shift button on the front?

i think that white rod that came apart has something to do with why it doesn't work
